Return Visit to the TWA Hotel at JFK
It felt like the goal posts were being moved before our December ’21 trip to Jamaica. The US had just announced a single day testing protocol for international travel and we were unsure whether the Jamaican government would follow the US example and do the same. At the same time, we were notified by JetBlue that we should plan for a longer check-in procedure because of COVID document inspections.
One solution was to arrive at JFK the night before our morning flight to give us the additional margin that would make us less harried about our departure. All the park-sleep-and-fly hotels were booked, so we reserved a room at the TWA hotel across from the JetBlue Terminal (#5), from which we would fly the next day. We were hoping to match the magic of our previous stay there.
More of the hotel’s facilities were open since our first visit almost two years before. The restaurants, gym and rooftop pool had been closed pre-vaccinations, but were now open for business with mask and vaccination card requirements in place. We had a wonderful stay this time and would highly recommend it.
The only disappointment was that “Connie”, the iconic TWA Constellation aircraft that is on the hotel grounds, was being occupied for a private function, so we could not enjoy a meal/drink in the lounge there. This was hardly a sacrifice, since there were many other eating and drinking options.
As before, the rooms were incredibly quiet, the beds comfortable, and the convenience undeniable.
