Wyatt/Sara Family Update – 2021

We feel fortunate to have spent time with Sara, Wyatt, Emmett and Luca on two occasions this year. We flew to Seattle in April around the time of Emmett’s 7th birthday, and their Vashon Island family flew to the east coast for a Thanksgiving visit just a few weeks ago. In both cases, we were impressed by how much Emmett and Luca had grown and matured, and how the stay-at-home culture of these COVID years has positively affected the family as a whole. We shared a wonderful time together, feeling closer than ever, despite the 3000 miles that separate us physically.

Emmett and Luca share a great sense of humor and a love of the outdoors, where they seem most comfortable looking under rocks or wading in the shallows looking for insect and fish life. Both are back in school, much to their parents’ delight.

Indoors, Emmett likes to read and to try his hand at baking. When they visited for Thanksgiving, he had requested that Jani show him how to make a Baked Alaska, which they worked at together. Lately, indoors or out, Luca appears to be consumed with fishing. Look to the bottom of this post for a hilarious video of him fighting to land a sizeable salmon.

Their family took a trip to Costa Rica in October. One of the most talked about highlights was sighting, and approaching, a grumpy Fer-de-lance venomous snake; that and bringing home a real machete!

Wyatt has begun to travel again for his job, representing the legal claims of his Native American clients. He also argued a landmark case before the Washington Supreme Court, that has yet to be decided. Sara is now Senior Legal Counsel at Puget Sound Energy.
