The Kona Hawaiian Quilt Museum

We did not know what to expect when we located this storefront museum, but it turned out to be a delightful visit. The published address took us to a quilting store which, on its own, held a treasure trove of materials and patterns that would not be readily available in “the lower 48”. And the gaggle of quilters in the back of the store was a priceless scene to behold.

The museum was housed in a suite next door to the store. It was not huge, but the exhibits displayed exceptional quality. The quilts were largely Hawaiian designs and were all copyrighted, so we could not take pictures of individual quilts.

A number of guide book attractions don’t work out (like the Macadamia Nut Farm we visited), but the quilt museum was a notable exception.
