Monday was Presidents’ Day, so there was still a line to get into the park. Fortunately the trails were not as populated as the previous day and we encountered relatively few other hikers the rest of the week.
We started the day on the Barker Dam Trail, which featured a dam (in a dried up riverbed) and petroglyphs. We were becoming used to seeing amazing rock formations that were everywhere, many on which our grandsons were climbing. Afterward we drove to an area at a lower elevation where Cholla (jumping cacti) were flourishing.
After a walk amongst the Cholla we drove out of the park through a different exit and made our way to Pioneertown, which has served as a movie set for many old western movies and TV shows.
