Cascade du Dard – Hike to a Waterfall

Seeing the waterfall was well worth the hike up. We had only seen fast moving rivers and streams since we arrived and Cascade du Dard was no exception. Melting snow and ice obviously had a huge effect on this entire area.

This was our first encounter with a refuge (cafe), but these welcome stops became something we would look forward to as the difficulty of the hikes increased. The four of us had a light snack, then started the hike back. The return trip was more of a climb than we might have guessed. The trail got tighter with numerous switchbacks and exposed roots and took us a ways upward before it started its descent down to town. In all, we walked 5-6 miles and had an enjoyable outing.
