Ithaca Summer Reunion Returns

Sam and Uncle Kent start “floating fire on water” at dusk

It was a long wait, but well worth it. After 10 years of uninterrupted summer reunions, last year’s gathering joined the list of cancelled events due to the pandemic. Finally reunited, the Garrison side of the family was well represented. All 5 of Jani’s siblings (and their spouses) were in attendance, along with many younger/older cousins, and 91-year-old Uncle Mark, who came from Rhode Island.

Judging from the amount of growth and maturity of some of the younger cousins, it seemed like even more time had passed. It was exciting catching up with each others lives and learning how we had each spent our COVID time.

As in years past, the atmosphere was relaxed and there was plenty to eat. Kent and Francesca were generous hosts and provided housing for everyone. The weather cooperated and all meals (save for breakfasts) were served outside by the water.

Cathy and Uncle Matt brought their pontoon boat over from Keuka Lake. Uncle Kent gave rides on his catamaran. Cousins canoed, paddle boarded, bounced on the water trampoline and played pickup baseball. Many also chose to hike to nearby Taughannock Falls on the second day. As in the past, the last night included a family photo, a huge meal and watching fire burn on the water into the night.

Most older family left on Sunday, but some of the younger cousins stayed on for a week of “Camp Francesca”, which has become something of a tradition.
