Lucy Marie Garrison Graduates From High School
Our niece is going to Mt. Holyoke College in the Fall
Lucy is joined here by her maternal grandparents, her parents and her sister
I had the distinct privilege of attending our niece Lucy’s high school graduation on Sunday June 4. Unlike many events of this type, this one was a real pleasure.
The setting was a beautiful campus, nestled in the Berkshire Mountains in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. The weather was cool, slightly overcast, and the speeches were surprisingly enjoyable; generally uplifting but with enough humor to capture the audience attention. Rather than drag on, this commencement exercise was exquisitely timed and personally touching.
This was the 125th Commencement at Miss Hall’s School, a private college preparatory school for boarding and day students, all female. They educate girls in grade 9 through 12, and this year’s Senior Class numbered 44. The charming Head of School, Julia Heaton, personalized the handing out of diplomas by reading quotes about each recipient that she had culled from previous reports from teachers who had know each of the students, some as far back as kindergarten. Most were humorous, some enlightening, all were kind.

Lucy distinguished herself at Miss Hall’s and was awarded 2 Department Awards and 1 All-School Award. She will attend Mt. Holyoke College next fall.

Lucy’s grandparents, Phyllis and George Dickinson, traveled from South Carolina to attend the Commencement. Also in attendance were Lucy’s parents, Cindy Dickinson and Will Garrison, as well as her uncle Gary and sister Rose.
Rose and Her Cousin Sam Move On to High School
Rose, will start her high school as a freshman at Miss Hall’s at the start of the next school year. Her cousin, Sam (our grandson) also graduated 8th Grade and will attend public High School next fall.
