Sam Shines at Cooperstown
In early August, our grandson Sam participated with his travel baseball team (Cortland Nationals) in an exciting week-long tournament near Cooperstown NY, the home of the Baseball Hall of Fame. We visited the first few days and were impressed with the “All Star Village” facility and the organization of the tournament. The players were kept busy from early morning to lights out, playing ball on one of the 12 diamonds or visiting the Hall of Fame nearby. The tournament provided all their meals and housed them in a players village. They gave each player home and away uniforms and guaranteed each team at least 7 games and an opportunity to play more if they advanced to the final rounds.
The tournament put on an Opening Ceremony, Closing Ceremony, Skills Competitions (including a home run derby) and a pizza party.

Dozens of teams from all over the country that participated. The Nationals did not do as well as they had hoped, but they got a chance to size up the competition in their age group and learn where they needed to improve.
